Google says its AI work now covers more than 300 languages

What happened

Google says its technologies and products now support everyday interactions in more than 300 languages. Its language work aims to understand speech and meaning beyond literal text, including tone, emotion and slang.

The company also describes working with local communities and organisations to bring voice-based AI to people who may have basic phones or limited connectivity.

Why it matters in the Philippines

A global language count does not prove equal quality for Filipino, Cebuano, Ilocano or other Philippine languages and dialects. Each product, feature and language pair needs direct testing by native speakers.

Useful evaluation should include ordinary conversation, regional vocabulary, switching between languages in the same conversation, pronunciation, safety and whether meaning survives translation in both directions.
