What OpenAI announced

OpenAI’s official deprecation page says the Videos API and listed Sora 2 model aliases and snapshots will be removed from the API on 24 September 2026. Developers were notified on 24 March 2026.

The table lists the Videos API, sora-2, sora-2-pro and three dated Sora 2 snapshots. Its recommended-replacement column is blank for every listed item, so the page does not name an official API replacement.

Who needs to act

This deadline matters to teams that directly call the OpenAI Videos API. It may also affect a third-party tool if that tool uses the same API behind the scenes, but users should confirm that with the provider instead of assuming every Sora-branded product will stop.

Pinoy AI Works does not treat this as a shutdown of every AI video workflow. Our current production lanes use other tools, but any old Sora API experiment or connected automation should still be checked.

What to do before the deadline

  • Search your code, automations and provider settings for the Videos API and the listed Sora 2 model names.
  • Download and archive outputs, prompts and job records that your team still needs.
  • Stop designing new production steps that depend on this API unless OpenAI publishes a supported migration path.
  • Ask third-party providers whether your workflow depends on the retiring API and what their tested replacement is.
  • Test any fallback with a small non-sensitive project before moving production work.
